I find daily rituals more and more rewarding and satisfying as I get older. Below are the apps / videos / podcasts that I consume daily:
#app #health - MyFitnessPal - I’m a subscriber to Under Armour’s MyFitnessPal app. I use it daily to track my weight and calories consumed. The daily habit ticks my fitness / health OCD tendencies and really helps me keep motivated one meal at a time. Below is the log for a typical day:
#video #news - Philip DeFranco’s 15 min news updates on YouTube. I’ve been watching Philip’s news updates for a few years now and find it a great way to keep up with general events, world news and interesting YouTube related bits. I usually watch as a distraction while on the treadmill.
#podcast #news - The Daily podcast by the NY Times.
This New Yorker article sums up my love for the podcast perfectly: “It’s a twenty-minute update murmured in your ear by a well-informed, sensitive, funny, modest friend—the kind of person who has as many questions as answers?“
Depending on the time of the year (day light savings), the news update is normally released about lunch time here in South Africa. It’s my go to listen while preparing lunch.
#longform #readitlater - I try and “read” at least a couple previously saved articles every day. I use the Pocket app’s listen feature and often listen while on my afternoon unwind walks.
An example of an article I recently enjoyed: The Epic Hunt for a Lost World War II Aircraft Carrier
#newsletters - I find newsletters are a great way to keep updated on a wide range of topics and interests. I use the Stoop app and website to catch-up on my subscriptions during the day.
Subscriptions I look forward to reading daily include Seth’s Blog, Inside Streaming, Inside Dev and Techmeme
